It has been a busy month in Springfield, with House deadline week last week and a great deal of work happening behind the scenes to keep our legislative agenda moving.

This month, we worked hard to advance all three bills in our Community Partner Fair Contracting Package out of committee. These bills are now being held on second pending amendments. We are especially grateful to Holly Ambuehl, Senior Director of Policy and Government Affairs at Forefront and an Illinois Partners Board Member, for her diligence and leadership in moving this work forward, and to the team at ICOY for their partnership on the Court of Claims legislation.
As we continue working with the Governor’s Office of Management and Budget to finalize amendment language, we also want to thank our partners at the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault, the United Way of Illinois, and Community Assistance Programs for testifying in support of these important bills, as well as chief sponsors Leader Dagmara Avelar, Representative Lindsey LaPointe, and Representative Lillian Jiménez.
Thank you to Carrie Ward of ICASA and Nyah Oluwole of Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault for sharing powerful testimony about the urgent need to address chronic underinvestment in the human services workforce and build a path toward greater wage equity and sustainability across the sector. Thank you to our Chief Sponsor Representative Yolonda Morris for her advocacy and ensuring this important legislation was heard!
