This year the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois launched an initiative designed to work toward a unified system that would serve the needs of all people experiencing homelessness including new arrivals and longer-term city residents.

The initial planning phase resulted in a list of recommendations including maintaining at least 14,175 beds and making them available for anyone needing shelter, creating a location for people seeking shelter that would always remain open and implementing a standard of care across all shelters and community centers where people could seek help for workforce development, landlord meditation and legal support.

More information will be available at a later date on a website dedicated to the One System Initiative and the implementation phase.

You can read recommendations and a list of the organizations who participated in the work groups, and members of the Consumer Advisory Board here.
