The fall veto session is bringing timely and important conversations to the forefront.
Illinois Partners is proud to stand with our partners in support of critical legislation that strengthens protections for Illinoisans.
The Health Care Sanctity and Privacy Act, led by ICIRR and sponsored by Senator Omar Aquino and Representative Dagmara Avelar, ensures that uninvited law enforcement activity in health care facilities must comply with the law—protecting patient privacy, safety, and the right to care without interference.
In addition, the Court Access, Safety, and Participation Act , led by many of our partners and sponsored by Rep Norma Hernandez and Senator Celinae Villanueva, establishes statewide standards to ensure safe, secure access to courthouses and judicial services. This legislation affirms that all Illinois residents should be able to participate in court proceedings without intimidation or unlawful interference.
These efforts align with the Governor’s recently signed Executive Order establishing the Illinois Accountability Commission, which will strengthen oversight and ensure transparency in government systems. Together, these initiatives represent important steps toward protecting the dignity, safety, and rights of all communities across Illinois.
On October 15, our partners at the Chicago Coalition to End Homelessness, the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Northern IL Foodbank and others organized a subject matter hearing on impacts on SNAP, highlighting ongoing challenges and opportunities to strengthen food access for Illinois families in light of proposed cuts at the federal level.
During this final week of Veto Session, there will be a subject matter hearing on Medicaid where we anticipate critical dialogue about access to care and support for communities across Illinois. We will continue to keep our network updated as these hearings unfold.
