Advocacy works– amidst much instability in our federal and local governments, there are indicators of progress in state policy that we want to celebrate, as we continue to push for more.
At the conclusion of the Spring Legislative Session, we are excited to share that:
- The Living Wages, Thriving Communities resolution (HR0151) passed with a 79-34 vote and will be adopted into law!
- The Human Services Professional Loan Repayment Program (HB1588/SB1306) received renewed appropriations of $1.25M to support frontline workers at community-based human service organizations who are highly educated and love their work, yet face high student loan debt burdens and low wages due to state contracting barriers
There is cause to celebrate! These two wins are a direct result of the advocacy of YOU– all of our partners and supporters that took time out of their days to make a phone call, submit a witness slip, join the LWTC Strategy Committee, share your stories or even joining us in Springfield on our Advocacy Day earlier this year. So thank you! As always, there is still much more work to be done– frontline workers need fair pay now, and the LWTC Campaign will not stop until we see our communities thriving!
