Family caregivers provide care to family members, friends, or loved ones, often without recognition, support or pay.

The month serves as an opportunity to recognize family caregivers and advocate for support in caregiving. At the local, state and federal levels, advocates are working to push forward policies that would provide caregivers with paid family leave, expand healthcare benefits, ensure access to respite care services and much more.

The Illinois Family Caregiver Coalition is a collective of human service organizations, advocates, and community members supporting unpaid and informal caregivers throughout the state. The Coalition is working to pass the Illinois Family Caregiver Act (HB 5358, SB 3919) which will increase funds for supportive services and education for caregivers. For those interested in advocating on support of caregivers, the National Alliance for Caregiving has developed a toolkit with templates and sample social media posts designed to raise awareness throughout the month of November.
