June begins a month-long celebration of LGBTQ+ liberation. While we can rejoice in the progress the LGBTQ+ movement has made over the years, from the resistance of oppression during the Stonewall Riots to the passing of legislation supporting LGBTQ+ rights, there is still much work to be done.
As of 2021, LGBTQ+ folx are still fighting for basic human rights, quality care across the health and human service landscape, and resisting systems designed to hinder their livelihood. As human service organizations, we know you witness the impact of these inequitable systems firsthand.
We encourage all organizations to acknowledge the intersecting challenges of LGBTQ+ folx. We support the efforts of organizations in our coalition who dedicate their missions to including a commitment to equality and equity for the LGBTQ+ community. Pride reminds us that history includes the LGBTQ+ movement and advocacy should include fighting for the LGBTQ+ community.
This month is an opportunity for reflection and renewed commitment to continued allyship and advocacy to combat anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and systems.
