More than 1 million workers in Illinois do not have access to paid sick days. As a result, workers risk losing much needed income or jobs if they take time off because they are sick or need to care for a family member.
Shriver Center and Women Employed championed a bill in partnership with the Illinois Paid Sick Days Coalition to ensure that all workers in Illinois are able to take time off without losing their paycheck or their employment.
The Paid Leave for All Workers Act will provide all workers, including essential workers, up to 40 hours, or five days, of paid time off. Employees can use paid leave for any reason, including caring for sick family members or caring for themselves. On January 10, 2023, the bill passed both houses and is now headed to Governor Pritzker for his signature.
