The National Women’s Law Center (NWLC) filed a lawsuit on behalf of a coalition of 17 state domestic and sexual violence organizations challenging new federal restrictions on Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grants.

The suit opposes a requirement that grantees certify they will not engage in activities labeled “out-of-scope,” including those tied to gender identity, DEI, or immigration-related support.

Advocates argue these restrictions could severely limit services for survivors and jeopardize critical community-based programs across the country.
