Congratulations to our coalition partner PODER for the recent unveiling of a beautiful and powerful mural in the Gage Park community located on the southside of Chicago.

The monarch butterfly is a powerful symbol in immigrant justice and solidarity movements to honor the journeys of people who migrate in search of safety and a better life.

In vibrant colors and sweeping wings, the monarch butterfly represents transformation, courage, and the right to move, live, and thrive without fear.

The mural is a collaboration with Open Center for the Arts. The artists are Alma Dominguez, a Mexican-American artist whose work centers on migration, identity, and environmental justice and Mario Mena, a Chicago-based muralist who transforms public spaces into powerful storytelling canvases that reflect the soul of the community.

You can view photos of the mural and in a recent Block Club article.
