Our new 3-part dynamic training series – Building Power in Human Services: Advocacy in Action – is designed to prepare human service professionals to effectively engage in state-level advocacy.

Whether you are new to advocacy or looking to refine your skills, this series will offer practical tools to make an impact.
September 10 – Introduction to Advocacy
Facilitated by Niya Kelly (Chicago Coalition to End Homelessness) and Cosette Ayele (Illinois Partners). An overview of how human service organizations can engage in advocacy and a little schoolhouse rock for Illinois that will focus on identifying legislative stakeholders and various methods of passing a bill
September 17 – Lessons from Illinois Advocates
Featuring panelists Lauren Wright (Health and Human Services Coalition of Illinois), Annika Cole (Illinois Skills Agenda), Creola Hampton (BLACHE – Black Leadership Advocacy Coalition for Healthcare Equity in Illinois), Cosette Ayele (Living Wages, Thriving Communities Campaign), Adela Carlin (Healthy Illinois Campaign), and Doug Schenkelberg (Bring Chicago Home). Two panel discussions will focus on building effective coalitions and creating bold campaigns.
September 24 – Developing an Advocacy Strategy and Galvanizing Support
Facilitated by Cosette Ayele and Katherine Cavanaugh (Illinois Partners). Building an advocacy strategy, organizing and mobilizing supporters, understanding and determining tactics, crafting messages and storytelling, and evaluating the impact of advocacy effort.
All sessions will be held on Zoom, and a recording will be shared with all registrants.
