New guidelines for determining public charge went into effect on September 18.

While there are litigation efforts currently challenging this rule, the changes will be implemented until those cases have been resolved. Determining “public charge” occurs when a person applies for green card or for a visa.

Resources are available from the national PIF Coalition and PIF Illinois to support partners with information, tools, and updates on issues affecting communities and human service organizations.
